11  Manipulación y limpieza de datos

En este capítulo aprenderemos cómo filtrar, seleccionar y transformar datos en R. Primero veremos la indexación básica y después utilizaremos dplyr para manipular la base de datos de manera más sencilla y eficiente.

11.1 Indexación y Subconjuntos

La indexación permite acceder a partes específicas de un data frame, ya sea por posición, por nombre o usando condiciones lógicas. Es una herramienta fundamental antes de usar paquetes más avanzados.

11.1.1 Selección por filas y columnas con [ ]

La sintaxis básica es:

• dataframe[1, ] → primera fila
• dataframe[, 3] → tercera columna
• dataframe[1:5, 1:2] → filas 1 a 5 y columnas 1 y 2

dplyr es una de las herramientas más importantes para manipulación de datos en R. Permite trabajar de forma clara, rápida y legible.

11.3.1 ¿Qué es dplyr?

Es un paquete del ecosistema tidyverse diseñado para:

• Seleccionar columnas

• Filtrar filas

• Ordenar

• Transformar

• Resumir datos

Todo usando una sintaxis fácil de leer.

11.3.2 Concepto de datos tidy

Un conjunto de datos tidy cumple tres reglas:

1. Cada columna es una variable

2. Cada fila es una observación

3. Cada valor es una celda única

Esto facilita análisis, visualización y modelado.

11.3.3 Instalación y carga de dplyr

11.4.5 group_by() + summarise() : resumir datos por categorías

Cuando necesitamos resumir información, obtener estadísticas por categoría o calcular valores como promedios, totales o máximos, utilizamos las funciones group_by() y summarise().
Estas dos funciones suelen trabajar juntas:

• group_by(): organiza los datos en grupos según una o más variables.

• summarise(): calcula resúmenes para cada grupo (conteos, medias, mínimos, máximos, etc.).

En conjunto, permiten transformar tablas grandes en resúmenes claros y compactos.
